On Brand with Donny Deutsch

Business #227

Everything is a brand. In today’s world companies, public figures, countries, institutions, and movements are brands with their own unique values, marketing, and influence. Former CEO and Chairman of Deutsch Inc., innovative political analyst and veteran TV personality, Donny Deutsch, mastered the power of branding when he built the multibillion dollar ad agency. Now, in a hyper-saturated, over-marketed world, our media landscape too often presents one-dimensional figures who are globally seen, and yet not truly known. Where the notion “perception is reality” feels truer each day, join Donny as he peels back the layers of the images we see, to understand the depths of the people who are changing our world. You won’t want to miss Donny’s candid conversations with global experts and the biggest names across entertainment, business, media, politics and more to better understand the “brands” of the moment and examine where politics, current events, and pop culture converge.

    Speak clearly
I enjoy this show but wish Donny would enunciate more clearly, speak a tad slower that’s all.

    Change of heart.
I was a fan until your interview with Chris Christie, a notorious flag in the wind. Your nose iwa so far up his butt, you could smell what he was chewing. You like what Trump is doing with the economy? Do you like tariffs? You like what Trump is doing with deportation? Seriously? Etc. My respect for you plummeted with this interview and your summation at the end. Brand down on you, Donnie.

Christ Christie: Exactly What I Expected
This was more than disappointing. Donnie sounded like he’s been hanging out with Bill Maher. What’s worse is that he let Christie lie about the Biden administration unchallenged. Donny should get himself some fact checkers.

    Caving to Trump
I’ve been a fan of Donny for years. As a fellow New Yorker I can’t believe that Donny is now taking a knee to Trump. Is he in fear of retaliation? We’re in The Dark Ages now because of Trump. Don’t give in Donny- stand tall!

    BACK ON MORNING JOE? SHAMEFUL
I love your podcasts and always ‘watched’ your appearances on morning Joe. No more. Shameful.
  • Prometheus---
Joe and Mika bend the kneee
Donny, shame on you if you go back on Morning Joe after you CORRECTLY labeled Trump and the MAGA movement fascist. Joe and Mike flushed their integrity down the toilet. Please don’t let your integrity land there too. You understand history and correctly forecasted what is coming don’t become a part of it. Joe and Mika have made fools of themselves by bending the knee to Trump…. They are no different from all the GOP politicians, who they have endlessly ridiculed for bending the knee. For months Mika’s hair was on fire over Trump then 4 days after the election they’re bending the knee down in Mar-a-Largo, pathetic…..Shameful behavior. I’m not surprised about Joe, he’s always been a clown and political weather vane, but Mika really shocked me……..

    Dan Senor Episode-must listen!
I am an avid listener of Call Me Back podcast and was delighted to learn that Dan would be a guest on the show. I could have listened another hour TBH. I’m now a new follower of On Brand. Thank you for your voice.

    Donny please TAKE YOUR TIME!
Donny I always appreciate your commentary and expertise. My issue is you plow through your “Brand Up/Brand Down” show as if you can’t wait to be done with it fast enough. It’s not necessary, podcasts are not under strict time constraints, so why the rush? Please slow down, enunciate, and speak more clearly. Pause and let the listener absorb your analysis. Donny, please slow down. You know you stuff, however that professionalism is not reflected in your podcast delivery. I doubt you would accept that in any advertising from your clients. We shouldn’t have to either, and it’s an easy fix if you simply take your time and sound like you really want to do the BU/BD segment, rather than sounding like it’s a chore before you can move on to what you really want to be doing. Everyone mid-speaks from time to time, but your mad rush to get the through your show causes a lot of unforced errors. You’re better than that. If you’re going to do the podcast, be present, do it right, or don’t do it at all. You’re not presenting as well and you can and should be. If you ever happen to read this thanks for your consideration. With respect from a fan.

    I always appreciate his opinion
Just listened for 1st time in a while and as always he never disappoints I love the weekly brand up and brand down

    Who Boo?
Donnie who is your imaginary candidate who can pull Biden’s 81 million voter coalition if Joe is pushed out? You’re dreaming if you think Black women will not turn out for Whitmer Newsome or Shapiro if Kamala is passed over.

    People don’t get it
Love the pod cast. Here is what I don’t get, people are buying 72 inch tv , in our parking lot everyone is buying new car, obviously , their economy is good. If they think economy is bad you would see that

    Brands of the Week
So glad brands of the week are back, I missed it, also missed hearing the segment on Morning Joe.

    What a great podcast
Donny has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts. It’s smart and get straight to the point! There are so many podcasts that just meander and Donny keeps it clear and concise.
  • BlueCollarJew
    Disingenuous and false narratives
American Jew here. The fact that this show gave Noa Tishby a platform to spread her hate for Palestinians and Muslims and her whitewashing of the ethic cleansing of Palestine and Genocide of Palestinians is inexcusable. Judaism and Zionism are not synonymous, and Israel is indeed a colonial ethnocracy. But criticizing and pushing back against Israeli occupation and oppression is NOT antisemitism. Please listen to “Democracy Now!” or anything with Abby Martin or Ilan Pappè, or any of the many other truthful and well researched podcasts. And while you’re at it, call for a ceasefire now!
  • Missy_G_27
    Love Donny!
Discovered Donny from Morning Joe. He’s a great advocate and great interviewer. Being from the same tribe, I truly appreciate his recent interviews and of course, his brand.
  • Staceylih
    Fabulous and thoughtful
Like said by someone else, always appreciated you (on morning joe) but now even more for the thoughtfulness and voice you are giving the hostages and the “fake news” propaganda so dangerous to our people. Your empathy for the Palestinian civilians and children also help continue to encourage our humanity- which is always good to remember. We are a people who always wish for peace - so hopefully one day we will find it in earnest.
  • Young MI 01
    Piers Morgan Uncensored
Piers Morgan needed to be confronted about some of his statements. Not censoring, but definitely a discussion about some of his statements which were wildly inaccurate. I am a big fan of the show in this episode was disappointing. Thus low rating.
  • Frank H Fox
    Slow down
Walter Cronkite trained himself to speak at a rate of 124 words per minute in his newscasts, so that viewers could clearly understand him. In contrast, Americans average about 165 words per minute, and fast, difficult-to-understand talkers speak close to 200 words per minute.
  • dolceracer
    Total hypocrite. Vocal fry galore.
Brand down: Deutsch is obsessed with getting people back into the office while he posts his show from the comfort of his basement. Brand Down: His vocal fry is gross. He refuses to clear his throat. Can’t finish an episode without gagging.
  • waiting for fhe bens
    Didn’t think it could happen . . .
Donny I didn’t think I could admire you any more than from your brand acumen and your appearances on Morning Joe, but this podcast is truly 6th gear. Great stuff. Thank you.

The interview with Marian Williamson was great! I really learned a lot. Thank u Donny
  • Pattieatte
    Enjoy MOST of the episodes
I listen every week both Tuesdays and Thursdays and long before the split, so you can say I am a loyal listener. I also like to watch Donny on Morning Joe and I watched him when he had his own show on MSNBC. I couldn’t wait to listen to the Eugene Robinson episode because he is so intelligent and I also like watching him as well whenever he is on MSNBC. Unfortunately, I found this episode very disappointing. Not because of the guest, Eugene was excellent and could have been even better, if Donny would have stopped interrupting him and talking over him. It made for miserable listening since I wanted to listen to Eugene’s story about his family but Donny kept interrupting. Eugene isn’t the fastest talker and it seemed like Donny couldn’t wait for Eugene to make his point so Donny kept interrupting. Very rude behavior that I haven’t noticed before. I will definitely be listening closer for this behavior in the dilutive and if it continues, I will not continue to listen.

    80 for Brady
This is a great podcast for all of us, dabbling in the marketing world! 80 for Brady is doing great because people love the female cast!
  • RussTurk
    Excellent podcast
First of all I love Donny's passion and enthusiasm, and am very glad he broke the show into Brands Of The Week as a separate show...The only thing I wish Donny would change is he speaks too fast and jumbles words all the time. I know I'm nitpicking, and if he did it here and there I wouldn't say anything, but he does it a lot.
  • Ramonatv
    Donny!
So glad I found this podcast. Donny's interviews are fantastic and I’m loving the new 2 episodes a week format. Can’t wait to hear more.
  • Blasteroid77
    Donny is awesome
I like Donny’s sense of humor. If you have ever seen Morning Joe on MSNBC when they introduce Donny, Joe, Mika, Willy and whatever regular guests are present, they all tease Donny and take turns hitting him with funny shots. I would get a much needed good laugh while watching horrible depressing news. Donny really knows advertising and branding. He is one of the most successful persons of all time in the industry and well respected. But more than that he is interesting and you can learn by listening.
  • gilllin61

I object to the comments about Gavin Newsom
I love your show. I listen each week. My dad was the original Mad Man in Philly. Now I live in California. First, Gavin Newsom was NOT recalled. A bunch of dimwit Republicans challenged him and he put them away with 60%+ of votes. Second, we Democrats and liberals like him just fine. And we’re in the majority of the worlds 5th largest economy. He will win re-election and, if the rest of you are lucky, he will run for president and WIN. Please get your info straight. Don’t you watch MSNBC? (I think you do😉)
  • Danny Boy100
    Re Katy Tur
Good interview. Good reporter, though, maybe I am not alone in feeling there is always something serious? deep? hidden? about her, and oh, I guess we need to read the book to find out where her mother was in all this. A little hint would have rounded out the horror of this, as they say today, “challenging” childhood.
  • imranetix
    Critical review gets removed.
Donny’s depth of knowledge is miles wide and an inch deep. Sounds like a grandpa with a mic ranting about things. His need to constantly tell us what this podcast is about and humble brag about hiring mostly women is shallow and tiresome. The concept itself is dumb; not everything or every person is a brand. They are humans so treat them as such and have more depth when talking to them. A big thumbs down!
  • Saa10000
    Interview with Katy Tur
I really enjoyed this interview. Katy is so interesting and real. Her bravery in sharing the pain of her personal life but not allowing herself to be a victim really resonated with me. I’ve always liked her and now I understand why … she’s so real, funny, and smarter than she gives herself credit. Love your show … keep up the great work.

Love you on MSNBC but your podcast is even better. I go back and listen to my favorites as they are remarkably clear and definitive. Just don’t like some of the over use of vulgarity.

    On Brand with Donnie Deutsch
Love this weekly podcast!!! Never miss it! I especially liked the Kasich/Klepver interview. Klepper is great and I think Kasich and Tom Ridge are the only living Republicans I like. I also loved the interviews with Michael Cohen, Tommy Hilfiger, Stephanie Rule, Al Roker, Willie Geist, Carl Bernstein, Frank Bruni, Steven Van Zandt, John Heilemann, Rosie O’Donnell, & Joe Scarborough. Come to think of it, I like all of the interviews. Keep up the good work!

    Deepak Chopra
Read an article with Donny Deutsch in Success magazine that I really enjoyed and learned about his podcast. Downloaded the podcast and Was excited to listen to the interview with Deepak Chopra. Unfortunately the first 21 minutes was his Brand Up/Brand Down portion of the show that I quickly learned was his platform to voice his political opinion followed with a couple of advertisements. So disappointed.

He gives his interesting views… I like them. How about another MSNBC show like you did a couple years ago with intriguing guests. Thanks for you always candid takes on what’s happening. You could take over for Nicole when she moves to Rachel Maddow’s spot.
