Why bother doing a podcast on a show you seem to dislike? And have the audacity to take “Hello Uglies” from the Boulets. Please don’t ever do this again. There are so many good podcasts, including Post Mortem from the Boulets, that actually love Dragula. Just no.

If you love having two people feed of each others’ negative energy, Hello Uglies is for you! The hosts don’t seem to enjoy watching Dragula. Half of each podcast episode is spent complaining about the show, and a quarter is the hosts accusing each other of gaslighting. The other quarter of the show I would consider actual commentary, but the hosts (especially Lauri) don’t like any of the contestants. It’s fine to not like floorshow looks, but give us some explanation of why you don’t like them, or maybe even what you yourself would do for a challenge! They also frequently mess up the names of the contestants. This podcast is *exhausting* to listen to.

Why recap a show you don’t like about a genre you don’t know anything about or care to understand? I really wanted to like this but Laurie’s opinions are just awful and hearing the constant voice clearing is unnerving

I absolutely love Joe and Lauri together and live for their content. I’m really saddened with the direction the podcast has gone in with the Drag Race podcasting federation bit and the not even releasing the finale and reunion eps of this season to the public feed.

95% of this podcast are the hosts complaining about the show and calling the contestants annoying and boring. I’m actually at a loss as to why they even do this podcast, because nothing they say is ever positive. Rather than celebrate queer art, they do everything in their power to discount the talent of the contestants. Criticism for shows is good, but when the WHOLE thing is criticism, I start to lose the point of why you are even doing a podcast in the first place.

Absolutely fabulous!! I’m so entertained by these hosts. I find myself laughing throughout their podcasts. I’ve rewatched all of Dragula and binging these podcasts makes my day!!

Waste half the podcast not even talking about the episode. Can’t even have the respect to pronounce the competitors names correctly. Worst recap podcast out there.

But really, please shut up. I just wanted to hear someone else’s opinion about a show that I love, and I’ve got to be honest, listening to this podcast was a mistake. Never in my history of listening to podcasts have I felt that the hosts were grating until now. This whole show felt pained and uninspired with nothing constructive, which is fine for reviewers, but it bordered on the line of questioning whether or not the hosts even liked the show. While it was fun in the beginning, it’s felt like a regression, questioning the camp, the goofy bits, or what have you, and the podcast sounded like it was taking itself more seriously than it should. I’m sorry but if you want hard lore, arcs, etc., Dragula isn’t it. It’s supposed to be an amalgamation of the best parts of the genres that it taps into. It just sounds almost reverse gatekeeping listening to this podcast as if they are openly claiming ignorance towards the themes it’s trying to convey and then complaining about it. I guess this show was more fun before, but as of late the whole thing seems half, if not, under-baked. I’m so bored trying to justify Joe and Lauri with their takes. I’m taking a hiatus and will return later to give some space and listen to the pod, but honestly, the recent tone and opinions aren’t promising. Wishing the best to the pod and fans in the meantime; there’s an audience for everyone, and if this is yours, kudos uglies.

One nice thing I will say is that they have better audio then the other podcast of the same name. Other than that there’s much better Dragula recaps to listen to.

This podcast is great. The host have the best chemistry. I laugh every episode. I laughed every episode of the other hello uglies podcast too just because the sound was soooo terrible on that one. This podcast is way better and well worth a listen

I appreciate listening to others’ opinions about Dragula, which is a show I enjoy, despite being low-budgeted and amateurish. But these two hosts complain about practically everything. They don’t seem to like the show (at least the first two seasons), and sometimes they even sound nasty, condescending and unfair. Not cool.

Updated review from 5 stars to 1. I had been listening since the start of Hello Uglies and contributed $ to the Patreon for a long time until recently. I am now done with any podcast related to Afterthought Media. The Host-Owner Joe often calls others problematic, fat pigs or horrible human beings. He is a crazy train bully of problematic statements, knee jerk reactions, blocking supporters & saying horrible things about patrons, co-hosts, exes & others for no good reason. He will often say these things live & edit them out. He has the thinnest skin of a podcaster I have ever witnessed. Definitely not professional behavior. On a good note: Lauri is great & funny.

After binging Season 1 & 2 of Dragula over the summer, I was told of your podcast's existence... and binged them all! The banter between Joe and Lauri is great and I thoroughly enjoyed the pod going off on personal tangents, too. Listening after each Season 3 episode was a great way to enjoy them twice. I just listened to the Hollow Eve interview for a second time and it was fan-freaking-tastic. Thanks for giving them a platform for such important topics! I’m now a Patreon member as a result of their chemistry! Neither of the hosts are drag queens let alone experts on alternative queens but that’s what makes this show so refreshing. Their takes are genuine and I think what most of us are actually thinking, but packaged in a comedians voice. Sad the season is done but there is more content from the two of them on Patreon

I love the dynamic between Joe and Lauri- this show is everything you want in a Dragula review podcast. They’re honest, level headed, not too snobby to appreciate the gritty in Dragula but also not blowing smoke up the Boulet brothers’ skirts. Cherry on top- Prime accidentally released two episodes back to back and they somehow recapped them both in two days! Gotta love the dependability and professionalism of this podcast. Five stars all the way.

These “hosts” are super uneducated on this show. They can’t even say the queens names right, they trash the cast & boulets, they don’t know nothing about drag CLEARLY. How are these hosts QUALIFIED to have any input? This podcast is a JOKE.

The two are clearly friends who have bonded through mocking others. The conversation waxes and wanes through the topic of the show they're covering however its wonderful to hear how they interact with each other. A partcularly hysterical moment is in season 1 involving a skit where Lauri talking to her father on the phone. You don't have to watch Dragula to love this podcast.

This is a great podcast. The hosts are hilarious, and they have amazing chemistry. You don't have to watch the show to listen to the podcast. I gave Dragula a shot after listening to them, but I gave up on the actual show pretty quick. Nevertheless, they do a great recap, and their commentary is on point!

The perfect mix between comedy and a television review. I actually started watching Dragula only because of the podcast. Lauri and Joe have the warm and hilarious friendship that everyone wants, listening to this podcast can make me smile and laugh even on the worst of days. I had intentions of taking the time to watch Dragula, but I have so much fun listening to Joe and Lauri I thought “meh, why watch the show?!” 😂 Joe and Lauri have great chemistry and it’s fun to hear them talk about anything. “Shut up!”
