There is an appalling lack of fact checking, and reporting the truth in the news media. However, Michael Barbaro and Sabrina Tavernise (until sadly, she left ) are highly qualified, professional journalists with talent, integrity, and a commitment to use reliable sources. Are they entirely objective? No. No one is. And I don’t agree with every story angle. But given the other choices in digital news, this podcast has consistently risen to the top.

Anyone supporting Trump right now need to move to Russia and then they will realize how damaging he is to our country! Thank you NYT, hold strong against the autocracy about to happen!!

I used to enjoy listening to The Daily when I first discovered the podcast. It was informative and well-produced. But now, almost all of their episodes are locked behind a subscription. Really disappointing. Just another media company putting profits over access to information. Lame.

Been a listener since late 2017 when the episodes had the date as episode titles. They really do their part to immerse the listener to the heart of the subject matter

Today’s podcast - Wow! What a heartbreaking and eye opening story on Trump’s chaotic and cruel deportation push. Jessica Cheung is an incredible interviewer/journalist and her interview of Ayla, the daughter of a deported man is everything news reporting should be. Thank you NYTimes.

So Boring. This episode is not even informative. This is a 20 year old girl talking 70% of the time while I learn nothing about what the administration is doing. 20 minutes in and still waiting for the anecdote to end. Back to hard Journalism please. This is the only episode of the daily I felt was a waste of time

When The Daily first came out, it was easily in my top 10 podcasts - for the most part, interesting and relevant topics and guests and quality interviewing However, it has now often deteriorated into an echo chamber in which the host Rachel (please decrease her presence by at least 70%) merely tries to re-state what the guest has said (amongst an ungodly chorus of her own "mmmms" and "hmmmm" sounds) She does not provide useful context or engage with the guest in any meaningful way NYT, nice that you try to have female hosts, but for Pete's sake do a better job of vetting their qualifications to sit in the host chair!! How about rotating hosts every 2 weeks until you find 3-4 who can do a better job, then keep them all on rotation?? Also, the Rufo "interview " was vile. If you want to interview people in MAGA works then FACT CHECK them in real time!!!

Listening to the Trump crypto episode. I think what they are describing is wrong, but Rachel just paraphrased the reporter as saying, “legal grey area” right after the reporter just said it was legal by the fine print. This is just one example of many of hers. I wish I heard more from her presenting and challenging the contrary point of view.

The real estate episode was so poorly researched. Commission has always been negotiable. Have you not looked at flat rate listing services or MLS upload only options? People have always had a choice to decide how much to pay. There’s also so much more that could and should’ve been said. One thing that’s true is NAR is managed horribly and almost mandatory for no reason

I look forward to the in depth story coverage. I can’t count the number of times this podcast has given me timely perspectives of current issues.

The student loan information that there is not a cap is absolutely untrue. You max out at a certain amount for an undergrad degree and for a grad degree. My other complaint is Jonathan Swan. He’s super smart but his voice is extremely irritating to listen to. I have to forward through when he’s talking.

Shocking one sided erroneous reporting. Google boulder discount broker and there are a ton that list their commission as low as 1%. This whole story was a lie highlighting one POV from a man trying to do a startup! This was a sham. MORTIFYING

I stuck with the show for as long as I could, but the melodramatic intonations and exaggerated cadences of the host were just too much to bear. If I hear another “hmmm” or “ahhhh” during an interview, I’ll lose it. The opening of every show is done like Stan Lee might do it, only this guy doesn’t possess that kind of voice. It’s so cringe.

Super inaccurate reporting about the Real Estate industry and the commission "work-around". We don't always split commissions 50/50, the seller doesn't pay the commission (the buyer does in the price of the house) and nobody is setting cookies out to convey commissions in code. The fact is that an attorney decided he wanted to make money and started a class action to do that. And he made out big. Real estate is overpriced because of the lack of inventory. Our commissions have always been negotiable. And if buyers had to pay their buyer's commission, plus their down payment, plus their closing costs all out of pocket, nobody but the wealthy could afford to buy a house. And the new rules require that we have to get an agreement signed stating what we I'll get paid and it is (as it's always been ) negotiable. The lawsuit only made it easier for us to get paid. Because let's face it... we also need to feed our families just like the buyers, sellers and everyone in between.

I asked a good “Left” friend of mine what podcast I should listen to for news, and she suggested this one. It has given me much insight and perspective on what others who think differently than I do. One thought I keep having while listening is that these reporters seem to be giving democrats ideas on how to be activists. Another thought, since I also listen to Morning Wire, is that these reporters seem to knowingly or ignorantly withhold important details of stories. I just wish I could hear the news without having to go to both extremes. (I’ve been dissatisfied with those news agencies who purport to be moderate or neutral.)

When I wanna be lied to and get the real good corporate act, dark money, America, last viewpoint, I pull up my good old New York Times and let the stooges go off.

First off, the situation with trump and the so called *enemies* is like making a bunch of random and untrue information. Who would want to believe a single word you say in that episode? Also, they don’t give a bunch of specific evidence rather than just spam and say whatever type of junk they want. I seriously don’t know what to say anymore. I trusted the news ever since the war in Israel but this time, they’ve gone too far. They give nothing but misleading information and garbage and they cannot be trusted anymore. I recommend you a different news podcast like Trevor Noah, but this? It’s a bunch of garbage. I think all of our reviews can definitely prove that. 👎

It flies in the face of the constitution and everything it means to be an American. The Daily needs to have more courage!! These are strong arm tactics of an authoritarian. I’ve always been a huge fan of this podcast because of the way they explain both sides of issues in very clear and factual ways. It gives me and my husband, the ability to listen together and discuss current politics rationally and with facts not conjecture. In a world full of distorted viewpoints, I appreciate the thorough explanations on both sides of the story and the why behind what’s happening. If we don’t have real reporting like this, we cannot make informed decisions and have meaningful conversations even when we disagree.

There are caps on Federal Student Loans. I’m not sure why you’re interviewee kept stating there’s no dollar cap. There are dollar caps, you max out regardless of whether you finish your degree. Lots of students have not completed a degree and are saddled with Federal student loan debt because they maxed out of Federal Student Loans. Typically, undergraduates max out around 65,000 or a little more depending on free money ie Perkins, scholarships, and school, and/or student resources. Then there’s the big problem of compounded interest, which your interview forgot to mention. Lastly, Federal Student Loans are for poor students and family’s with no credit or poor credit-who can’t afford private bank loans. Both parents and the student must qualify- if under 18, and the student lives at home, so both are poorer. Another problem with these loans is the compounding interest. The schools and fail to explain to students (children) and eager parents, the huge financial burden & responsibility of paying it back. You can’t claim bankruptcy on the debt to the Feds. Like your speaker alluded too, it’s unconscionable that these programs are designed to make a profit off the poor. Shame. Shame. Free market at it’s worse.

Just finished the 4/21/25 episode on student loans and was stunned to hear The Daily claim there’s “no cap” on student loan amounts. This is flat-out false — there are annual and aggregate caps on federal student loans, which a few minutes of fact-checking would have revealed. But fact-checking seems to be beneath the NYT these days. The episode even managed to twist things around to blame Obama — a bizarre stretch that fits into a larger pattern. Over the Biden years, the NYT has slid into lazy bothsidesism, and now in Trump 2.0, they’re back to sanewashing him through their favorite access journalist, Maggie Haberman. I tried to give The Daily another shot, but this kind of sloppy, misleading coverage is a dealbreaker. If you can’t get basic facts right, you can’t be trusted. Goodbye NYT — we had a good run.

This feel more and more dishonest, but today’s episode was ridiculous. I don’t know a single person who has received student loan forgiveness, and also I had to start repaying my loans years ago. Biden didn’t help me or anyone I know on this topic. Wake up NYT!

I’m ok with media that is honest about being left or right because I can fact check for the truth. But The NY Times, Maddow and this podcast is lies on top of lies. You call an actual illegal gang member “a Maryland dad” and act as if he was a US law abiding citizen. It’s like an alternate reality with you liberals these days. You support the actual bad guy rapists and murderers while saying you are so “Good” when the truth is, everything racial, hateful, corrupt, manipulative, misleading and just plain lies is what you really are. One damning part of the interview with Chris Rufo was the fact that he would/could not explain what research funding for cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and other medical conditions had to do with a university’s curriculum. That fact exposed his thinly veiled ideology and just how sinister it is.

I used to listen to every daily, but come on can we stop talking about criticizing Trump every single day. Are there not other subjects to talk about?

I am a devoted listener and NYT subscriber. Yesterday’s episode entitled “Her Business Was Thriving. Then came the Tariffs” was terrific. Beth Benike was thoughtful and intelligent and the content was fascinating and heartbreaking. I do find many of the episodes have a hesitant and somewhat timid tone in the face of the turmoil of the Trump 2.0 administration. Please present it as the crisis it is. There is nothing “conservative” about the radical right destroying our country.

I couldn’t stop crying when I listened to this podcast. I can relate to Sipp’s early years growing up biracial. What he has accomplished is phenomenal. The evil, unconstitutional actions taken by the Trump administration against law firms viewed as enemies is horrific. I admire the stand taken by Sipp. Thank u for presenting this very human side to this horror story.
