    A great show
I grew up outside of Boston and am amazed by this show. I have learned so much I never knew about Boston and Mass and history in general. The depth of reporting is exceptional. One of my favorite podcasts

    Fantastic, informative and quirky podcast
This is one of my favorite history podcasts. Boston is coming up on its 400th anniversary and has a wealth of stories. I think Jake does an excellent job of telling them. Witches, Red Coats, explosions, art and architecture and more get a fascinating spotlight.

    My favorite history podcast
Boston history has so much to offer - Hub History podcast does an amazing job uncovering lesser-known stories and figures, or taking a new & different angle and approach to well-known events that you think you’ve already learned everything about. I love that less common and underrepresented stories, voices and people from our city’s history are featured.

If you dig Boston, subscribe to this podcast and you’ll dig it even more
The history taught to us in school necessarily consists of insufficiently brief summaries of large and complex events. It’s incomplete, but it’s the best schools can do given their limited time. This podcast takes its time doing deep dives into somewhat smaller, but equally compelling stories, filling in the gaps and rounding out Boston’s story for interested readers. Try it. Subscribe to it. Review it. And donate if you can. If I ever run into the host and the host emerita, I’m buying them a round.

    Narrator
This podcast could be great if the narrator would just speak normally like he’s having a conversation with friends. I’m not sure what he’s going for but it’s awful.

    Look forward to every Sunday!
Great to know that there is a place to listen to a nice long hour or so of fascinating history about our great city of Boston. Love Jake’s commitment energy, and obviously strong interest and affection for Boston’s history. Very well-informed expert guests who also have spent so much time researching their subjects. I’ve learned a ton of info since tuning in. PS great job when you were almost out of breath on the draft wars episode you did great!

    Outstanding history podcast
Jake and Nikki started a podcast from which I have learned SO MUCH! I have been a walking tour guide in Boston for more than 15 years and this show has deepened and broadened my knowledge of my hometown. Jake is flying solo now as Nikki has the history-lover’s dream full time job at Old North Church. The topics are varied and the research is meticulous. The special guest interviews are always fascinating. I often recommend episodes to people on my tours.

Loved this double episode. You have me dreaming of a sailing adventure of my own again!

Boston out all the interesting history!
I started to listen to history podcasts about Boston’s history once I moved in to the city. The breadth of the information and varied history that is covered keeps it engaging. While it discusses colonial Boston (and surrounding areas), I appreciate the incorporation and representation of the indigenous and marginalized groups’ histories as it pertains to Boston. If you live in or know of specific neighborhoods in Boston, there is a good chance they cover a story or history about it. Highly recommend!

    Range
Jake’s strength as a digital historian is that he engages not only the classic Boston history that all locals are taught in school, but he also highlights new scholarship and under-privileged stories from folks in the margins. History for Jake is not just 1776 or William Lloyd Garrison. Jake’s range looks at colonial slavery one week and the Cold War the next.

    One of my favorite podcasts
Love this podcast. It's crazy how much interesting detail these two find on all sorts of historical Boston topics. I love the timely local events and the audio clips from the primary sources. Thanks for all the work that goes into this!

    Hub history
I'm an avid listener of hub history. Each episode is incredibly well researched. As a lifelong resident of the North Shore (Jake's terra incognita) and history buff, I enjoy hearing about little-known events. Jake's voice and delivery is perfect for podcasts, clearly announciated and loud enough to hear clearly. Doug from the North Shore.

    Boston History
The best podcast talking about mainstream historical events and stories not included in history books. Great show!

    Best Boston history podcast
Incredibly well-researched and thorough podcast. It covers the topics related to Boston that us real history nerds want to hear. But Jake doesn’t make things academic and he chooses fascinating subjects that you won’t hear on your average tour around the city. It’s clear that there’s a lot of time and love that goes into this podcast. 👍

    Great show
Thorough research, great delivery, and a wide range of interesting topics. One of my favorite indie podcasts

    Very Well Researched!
I started listening to this podcast when I heard it mentioned on My Favorite Murder. It has been such a fun way to learn about the history of my new home city. I love how they feature authors and people who work in some historic locations. They cover so much information; I can’t imagine how much research and work that goes into each episode! Thank you!

    Great podcast
Very informative with a host that is knowledgeable, well. written with fantastic diction Look forward to Sunday when the new show drops

    Interesting premise
A well put together, and thought out. However, it sparkles and crackles with the same delivery and charisma as a high school news program but that doesn’t affect the content, I’ve heard worse from higher production ‘casts, some episodes have a fascinating topic that’s only been whittled down due to the long and drawn out “this week in Boston history” segment, otherwise know as this interesting episode that looks like 34 mins is actually 13 mins because at the top of the show, we’re doing a full breakdown of historical acknowledgments. Which is fine and dandy, but becomes a bit labor some when binge listening.

    Fascinating history
I suggested to my stepdad that he listen to one: we listened for 2288 miles round trip to AL! Thanks so much!

One of a few fav podcasts!
My husband and I really enjoy listening to Hub History. We have lived in the Boston area for many years and always learn something new. We have read some of the recommended books, all good. If you like history and/or Boston, you will really enjoy this podcast!!

Like milk and a cookie and a shot of rum
For some reason I just feel better after listening to these pods casts. . I don’t care if it’s tidal mill ponds or pirates, Its like hearing stories from your cool but approachable friends. I practically live on the Jubilee site. I had no idea. I thought I knew it all. Nope! Nopey nope.

I don’t even live in Boston!
I’m not a resident of Boston or the state but that doesn’t matter with a show this good. Loved the iron lung and the cemetery info!

    Boston history’s greatest hits
This podcast very thorough and thoughtful. I’m a nonnative resident of Greater Boston, and I really enjoy learning about the history of my new home, and the hosts ability to link events and places let me feel grounded in this city and see how the history impacts the present.
  • Barton Mckensingtonz
    Thanks
I very much enjoy your show however at times the introductory points such as this weeks historical place and then usually some other follow are distracting- the somewhat monotone recitation of facts is a bit difficult to listen to as well At times - I think you should focus on lively story telling recitation of facts as well as one introduction of the weeks historical place and then jump into the story or feature episode- it’s less distracting and helps the listener maintain focus rather than having to wait and sort through what the episode is actually about or what other facts or story’s - cut to the chase and liven it up - thanks I do really enjoy hub history and this podcast just my observations for easier listening

Wonderful for New England history buffs!
I've listening to this podcast on a weekly basis for quite a while now. Good when it first started and keeps getting better over time. A lot of work on the part of the hosts clearly goes into each episode. Also, I appreciate the diversity of topics covered.

    Boston-centric
Hub History is an excellent podcast focusing on historical people and events in the Boston area. As a transplant and a history buff, I find the topics interesting and enlightening. I heard about this podcast through Stuff You Should Know and the hosts have also referenced another favorite of mine, Stuff You Missed In History Class.

    A fan from Pennsylvania
I wish I could remember how I found out about this podcast so that I could thank them! I was born and raised and still live in Pennsylvania, but I have spent a lot of time in Boston and it is one of my favorite places to visit!! This podcast is great! I love learning more about Boston that you won’t find on most tours!!

    Bravo! BOSTON!
I really enjoy this podcast. I’m a Boston native and really like Bowery Boys cast about NYC history, so am “wicked glad” there’s something along those lines for Boston.

Excellent treasure trove of Boston history
Just discovered this podcast recently Didn’t take long to realize that they do an amazing job of digging into some of Boston’s many, many interesting chapters. Love the interviews and the deep research.

    Highlight of My Week
Love this podcast. I live for my weekly history lesson on Mondays. Both hosts present topics objectively and what really stands out is their variety. While there are plenty of stories about well known figures, the also cover the marginalized people. The Brighton Stockyards episode is my favorite.

    Fairbanks House
I recently discovered this podcast. I have only listened to a few episodes, but I live Jake and Nicky. My favorite so far is episode 93: Folk Magic and Mysteries at the Fairbanks House. I have been to the Fairbanks House and have heard talks about folk magic, but the idea of using charms for medicine in New England (I know about it in England) was new for me and I am excited to talk further with Daniel about it. From the other episodes, I have learned about events I didn't even know about. Great job!

Great podcast - one of my favorites
This has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts. The hosts dive into topics both familiar and obscure, and always about everyone’s favorite city. I could do with less political commentary, but the occasional comment is well worth this fascinating podcast. Everyone interested in the Boston of today and yesterday should subscribe.
  • robbie871
Great Boston history, please tone down the politics
As someone who lives in Boston, this podcast is invaluable in learning more about the history of this great American city. But history should be largely apolitical, and much of this podcast is obviously ideologically-tinged. There are plenty of political podcasts already available online; this one has the potential to do something really special for Boston. Please keep the focus on Boston.

    More history - Less ideology
An interesting podcast centering on Boston area history. The actual episodes are far from in depth, but do provide fascinating insights into lesser-known events of the past. Best of all is the accompanying website which provides related links and information to further explore. Unfortunately, both speakers insist upon injecting their liberal ideology into too many episodes. That is simply a shame, as this seriously detracts from the end product and no doubt limits the scope of listeners.

    Boston History done right!
I really like the Bowery Boys, I wondered why more cities didn't have podcasts, hub history gets it right! I look forward to each episode, this podcast is a great mix of history and the people that made Boston! loved the Simpsons monorail reference in episode 21!
